Contrary to all the other definitions here, they ALL listen to emo music (hawthorne heights n shit), all put on emo clothes (their little sister's jeans type, u know), they dont look for other ppl's sympathy because they 'think' they're too cool to, they all have the same hair style (florence henderson hair, but covering half face), and all feel HAPPY when they lern to put on a perfect depressed face.
So, in short, they are all clones born of a stereotype of punk kid that was usually depressed.

Emo Kids are children (young adults) who either:
1. are rich and wear terrible taste in clothes to make it seem as though they're life is so terrible, and then cry about it to people who don't care, just for the attention.
2. or they are not rich, are are obsessed with cutting themselves because they think their life is so terrible, and that death is better for them

A young middle schooler who realized that punk was bullshit but did not make a step further. Emo kids (also known as "stupid scenester punks") act depressed 24/7, key word is act. These young souls are often seen at Salvation Army Outlets, "shows" (what emo kids call concerts) and at Hot Topic. They only listen to music and bands that no one has heard of, because ofcourse if someone else knows about these bands, they obviously have sold out and now suck.

Kids who usually wear tight jeans (guys usually steal girl's jeans), black wool hats, sweaters, scarves (even when it's soo hott no one in their right mind would wear one). Shoes are usually colored/drawn all over (vans slip ons, converse, etc.), either fitted shirts (stripes, polka dots, etc.), or very loose shirts. Loads of eyeliner usually black, chopped up hair in different colors. Goes to local clubs, shows with local bands, usually hang out with scene kids.
Kittie is such an emo kid with her weird clothes, and hanging out with scene kids with their dinosaurs.

little bitch ass kids who wander around looking sad about nothing, pretend that they have struggle and strife (usually rich preppy kids who shop at hot topic and buy 5 dollar anarchy patches and call themselves rebels) think of themselves as talented when in fact they are just hypocrites so full of shit its pouring out of their eyes in the form of tears. It's a label for people who can't form their own identity, just like goths and wiggers.
I saw this emo kid today looking all depressed at the bus stop so i kicked him in the balls and gave him something to cry about

An angsty teenager who feels that there is so much emotional pain that the only way to let it out is to take a razor or butterknife to their wrist, in hopes that people who don't know them are to notice and possibly feel a bit of sympathy. Emo kids are often characterized by black eye-liner or scars on wrists and arms.
More so, they feel that they have a creative side, and attempt to write deep, thoughtful lyrics about scenarios that have absolutely nothing to do with their real life sitiutation. Most often; these lyrics are strongly inspired by other hollow, apathetic nobodies trying to fit into the same "scene" as themselves.
In personal oppinion, if somebody is emotional, they have no need to try to act or dress a certain why to show that they are.
