The brand started by Adolf Dassler (1900-1978) (his older brother founds Puma), his child nickname was Adi (Dassler). Then the name Adidas was made. Started as a football (futbol, soccer) footwear company, characterized by the Three Stripes which licensing was bought from Karhu (a shoe company that made track shoes). The company is a large success with new technologies and expanding to all degrees of clothing and fashion. New hits include the Boost technology and its recent sales going above Jordan in America.
