drum box

another word for cajon, a type of wooden drum that has become popular in the last 10 years - and not to be confused with cahones. Cajon roughly translates as "box" while cahones are things that you don't want to have kicked.

Cajones were developed by West African slaves in South America who fashioned these versatile drums out of the the shipping crates they found in port towns.

Drum boxes feature a snare sound at the top, a bass sound in the middle and a wood block sound on the side. Typically, drummers sit on them to strike the front surface, also called the "tappa."
The drummer likes to use a drum box instead of kit drums for acoustic sets.
