reading coma

The act of being so engrossed in a book or magazine that you become oblivious to the world around you for hours at a time.
I tried getting in touch with Sam three days ago but every since he started reading that new novel he has stopped communicating.

Sounds like he might be experiencing a reading coma.

read and chill

When you are so poor that you can't afford Netflix, internet and neither cable television, so you have to go to the attic, pick something to read with your "friend" for a short time before starting to fuck.
*After pretending to have read something*

Person 1: I don't like the main character, it's very unoriginal
Person 2: Ok... can we just fuck now?
Person 1: I thought we would just read and chill!

read the handbook

The act of doing everything according to how social traditions and formal expectations dictate you should, usually for social acceptance by an individual or a group. One's ability to perform this act does not necessarily make them what they want to be.
Tessa: Wow! Max brought Niki flowers on the first date, opened all the doors, paid for dinner, bought expensive champagne, and walked her to her front door. What a great guy!
Andrew: Okay, he read the handbook, but so what? Is he actually an interesting guy?

Max: Yeah, I thought Niki was pretty cool. She seemed to know a lot about indie bands and films and ordered a chai latte at the coffeeshop. Then I slowly realized she was quoting Pitchfork with every other breath.
Tessa: Handbook-reader?
Max: Aye.
