-a “friend” who belittles you, bully’s you, or hurts your feelings in general
-a person who you care about even though they probably don’t care for you

-a person who you like when you’re around them, but hate when you’re away from them
-when you are with other friends you realize how much you hate them

-could also be controlling
-someone you continue to be friends with because of guilt issues, years you’ve known each other etc.
-similar to fake friends

A: “Susan always belittles me, it’s like she wants to hurt my feelings,”

B: “Susan seems like a toxic friend.”

friendcest

Friendcest. Noun. The act of interdating among a cliche or crowd of friends. Also dating a friend's ex. or sibling.
Alt. spelling: frencest.

Analogy:
Friends:Friendcest::Family:incest

Friendcestuous. Adj. describing a group of friends who have all dated each other, each other's exes, and each other's family members or an individual in said group. A small dating pool, the equivalent of a small gene pool.

You: I can't believe she is dating her friend's ex. again. After having dated her friend's brother too!
Me: She loves to commit friendcest.

or

You: Man, that crowd is like a soap opera. They've all hooked up in every possible combination.
Me: How friendcestuous.

Me: Be careful before you date him. I hear engages in frencest.

Friend Poaching

When one friend befriends another through your introduction, soon putting more effort into that person than you do, simultaneously making you seem less desirable and devaluing both your original friendships. This can happen consciously or unconsciously. Notably, one does not tend to ever make any new friends for themselves through the friend poacher.

I used to be close with Guy until I introduced him to Buddy, who started inviting him out all the time; I think Buddy is friend poaching, especially considering I've never met any good friends through him.

Second String Friend

Noun: a friend who is usually only called upon by a friend when a more primary/prominent friend is unavailable.

Taken from the term “second string” in an athletic competition situation. In football, if the star quarterback gets injured during a play, the second string is called off the bench to replace him/her. A “Second String Friend” is essentially benched until needed, if ever.

Synonyms: Plan B, Second Choice, Secondary Friend, Benched Until Needed

I got a call from X the other night. She had an extra ticket to a concert she bought for a friend, but they couldn’t make it so she called me to ask if I wanted to go because I am her Second String Friend.

favorite friend

Someone who is so special to you that they are differentiated from all of your other friends. A Favorite Friend is similar to A "Best Friend" except you can only have one. There is a special unexplainable bond created between Favorite Friends, simply because you are each other's favorite humans. You know this person will always be there for you and has a significant role in your life.

Everyone has best friends, but it's very rare that someone will find their favorite friend.

Friend Custody

When a couple breaks up, one person gets to keep the mutual friends while the other must find new ones because being around each other would be too awkward. The person who keeps the friends is said to be granted Friend Custody.

Bob: Why don't you come out with us tonight?

Phil: Because when Jane and I broke up, she got Friend Custody.

Friend of Gilgamesh

A term expressing a platonic relationship between adult males. The original use refers to the mythical king Gilgamesh, and his non-sexual friendship with the character Enkidu.

Montgomedy Sweelard is off traveling with Radrigo on some grand, manly adventure. Joe is a true Friend of Gilgamesh, and thus undoubtedly heterosexual.
