These responsibilities are passed on to other people by tales or are written down in a holy book. Religions can vary a lot, but they usually all consist immortality after death. In many religions people must make sure of a sacrifice to his/her/their god(s)/goddess(es), this may vary from nuts, fruit, vegetables, etc. to sacrificing animals or even other humans.
