hacker

An individual capable of solving complex non-intuitive problems in a seemingly intuitive manner. The processes and techniques used are not necessarily methodical to the observer, but yet achieve results significantly and consistently faster than known experience would predict. A hacker is not defined in terms of intention or purpose, but rather by the talented single-mindedness of method. A hacker is not a hack.

Hackers are not limited to computer hacking.

Commentary: The movies "Tron" (1982) and "War Games" (1983) significantly influenced the common use of "hacker" (by non-hackers) in reference to computer hackers. The widespread use of the Internet beginning around 1993 made millions of unwitting parents concerned that their adolescent child was turning into a hacker. Some of the twit kids even believed it themselves. Please see reference to "lacker" for a more appropriate name for these individuals.
A hacker typically uses genius or intuitive methodology to solve complex problems.

hack

Someone in the film industry, usually a director, who works on projects solely for financial reasons, rather than creative reasons. It is not about a filmmaker who is simply bad. That is a common misconception.
Jon Peters is such a hack, all he cares about making the film marketable, and not about the characters.

Hack Sauce

A noun and an adjective. There can be many Hack Sauces at one time, but in the action of being, or being described as, a Hack Sauce is indisputably the best thing in the universe. It has not been discovered yet how there can be more than one Hack Sauce at once to be in concurrence with the definition of the word, but it is so. Sometimes used in place of: 1337 Sauce, leet Sauce, and tubular. Do not confuse with: lame Sauce, newb Sauce, or rockin. The word Hack Sauce cannot be used at all times, but can be used by anyone. Certain circumstances must be in place for the correct usage of the word. Consequences are said to be dire if the word is used in the incorrect context but are unknown at this point.

HACK OFF

A new tradition started by Jim Rome on his sports talk premier radio show. The worse callers of the year are invited to call the show and the host and his xr4ti crew rate the bad calls. They are looking for train wreck callers with lame takes on sports and life. The reality is that Rome himself has turned his show into more of the View on Radio, since the departure of his long time producer Travis Rodgers, and the incorporation of his new producer Kyle "Mommas Boy" Brandt.
During the Hack Off this year, there were many crappy callers. But the worse was a turd named Vinny Mac. So he won and was invited to the Smack Off (as defined in the urban dictionary).
