newspeak liberal

A socialist (or more generally, a person that loves government taxing "the rich" and helping the poor) that doesn't want to identify as such. He or she gets inspiration from George Orwell' 1984 by torturing the language and using a word meaning "free" to hide their authoritarian intents.

In the U.S., self-identified liberals are really newspeak liberals as they favor government intervention and collective rights. In Europe, liberals are truer to their origins, i.e. in favor of limited government and individual rights - they would be called libertarian in the U.S.

Technically means those people who embrace all elements of society.

However it is more commonly used as a term for any left-winger.

The word 'liberal' is sloppily used.

Lexus Liberal

Similar to limousine liberal, except the Lexus Liberal is a member of the upper middle-class rather than the upper class. Lexus liberals are characterized as being ignorant and lacking common sense in regards to political and social issues despite having a college education.

Unlike Limousine Liberals, Lexus Liberals are often considered to simply be naive rather than hypocritical.

Because Paul owned a luxury sedan, a $500,000 home, and employed the services of a housekeeper despite his beliefs in progressive taxation and helping the poor, he was referred to as a Lexus Liberal by his neighbors.

Liberal

Liberalism is really the politics of the thinking man. Areas of the country with the highest percentages of educated people, for example, are overwhelmingly liberal. Stereotypically, liberals know too much for their own good. Oftentimes while conservatives are busy making horrible political decisions, liberals alone bear the burden of actually having to understand what consequences will arise. See also, Democrat, which is a happy middle ground politically speaking for liberals who have too much money to be totally idealistic, or for marginalized groups who have traditionally been alienated by the antics of many in the Republican party.

The so-called liberal bias is actually a bias in the level of education attained. For example, university professors are overwhelmingly liberal in national samples, which coincides with their having attained advanced degrees.
