My first language wasn't English and wasn't Spanish. My dadsuggested I learn Spanish since so many people in our community are Spanish-speaking.

Deep learning

When you peg someone with a strap on in a way that is deeply uncomfortable but for some reason you think if you keep doing it you might learn to like it. Everyone else has been “deep learning” and has said how much better it is than “regular learning”, however later on you discover that nobody was doing regular learning properly either and were instead just using rusty nails...
