furry pads either side of an animal's nose, from which whiskers emerge.

Most mammals have fruffs on their faces, although primates (humans, chimpanzees, etc) are some of the very few that do not. Fine examples of fruffs can be seen on the faces of domestic cats and dogs. It is possible to judge the approximate age of a cat by the appearance of its fruffs, since older cats have squarer fruffs. They may then be said to be leofruffular (having the fruffs of a lion).
