Although many people have claimed to have been close enough to even feel the carpet toad run right next to them, experts have yet to capture one for scientific study or photography. There have been numerous reports that when startled, they will emit an unpleasant odor and rippling sound very similar to the barking spider. Some experts have theorized that due to the different odors and sound variations that there may be different breeds of carpet toads. Most experts agree that it is closely related to the Brown Spitting Toad.
