When someone is extremely uncomfortable, moves around alot in discomfort or plays with their hair in awkward situations.

Jesup: Melvin is so distraught, let's analyze his every movement.

Joe: Hes playing with the buttons on his jean jacket, a clear sign of distress, and hes also wearing jeans.

Jesup: now hes trying to make himself look comfortable but it's clear that he is distraught.

distracted dressing

Diverted attention while getting dressed which can lead to incorrectly worn clothing. Causes may include television viewing, use of electronic devices, or conversing/arguing with others while dressing. May result in mismatched socks, unzipped fly, inaccurate buttoning or wardrobe malfunction, etc.

I forgot to put on my belt when getting dressed today. My pants kept falling down. It was a case of distracted dressing.
