dirt tan

When a person, usually a man, looks like he has a nice tan from being out in the sun all day. When in actuality it's just dirt. Usually seen on mechanics, truck drivers, racecar drivers, roofers, and a lot of guys that live in Florida.

When I saw that cute mechanic I thought, "wow, he's got a nice warm glow to him!", but he got closer and I saw it was just a "dirt tan".

A circle-shaped tan on a female swimmers back from the swim team suits. Almost impossible to get rid of by natural tanning and almost one of the oddest tan lines.

A sun tan (or burn) gained by spending lots of time outdoors wearing an issue T-Shirt. Arms, neck and head will be exposed to the sun, torso will be white and pale.

A: You've been digging in the garden all weekend?
B: Yes - and I've got a squaddie tan.
