Children's Day

The International Children's Day (ICD) is celebrated in numerous countries, usually (but not always) on June 1 each year.

The ICD had its origin in the World Conference for the Wellbeing of Children in Geneva, Switzerland in 1925. It is not clear as to why June 1 was chosen as the ICD: one theory has it that the Chinese consul-general in San Francisco (USA) gathered a number of Chinese orphans to celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival in 1925, which happened to be on June 1 that year, and also coincided with the conference in Geneva.

June 1 has since been observed as the ICD by numerous countries, especially by Communist countries; in the Western world the ICD is usually celebrated on other days of the year (if at all), and there is often little public awareness about these celebrations. (See the section on Germany below for further discussions.) Consequently there is sometimes a misperception that June 1 as the ICD was a Communist invention. Nonetheless, in recent years even some groups within the United States started observing the ICD on June 1.

Children's Chorus of Maryland

One of, if not the best choir in Maryland. Extremely challenging and ambitious choir, practices for five and half hours a week, and travels overseas during the summer. It's set up like a school, and you have an hour of class and an hour of choir for every practice. You have to audition to get it and if accepted, you are placed into a class level. The highest class is Solfa Four, and once you complete that year, you graduate from the choir. There are three choirs, Treble Choir (Beginners), Lyric Choir (intermediate), and Concert Choir (advanced). They've sung all over the country as well as in other countries as well. There is a wide range of personalities and ages, but all are brought together through their love of music. They are sometimes mistaken for "Maryland Sings", another Maryland choir, but they are ABSOLUTELY not. Not even close. In fact, when asked that they respond with an emphatic "NO". It's run and was started by Betty Berteaux, an acclaimed composer, acknowledged worldwide. They do a wide variety of music and just basically rock in general.
"He is a tree"
"What?"
"You wouldn't understand, it's a CCM reference."

"And now introducing, the Maryland Children's Choir"
"NO. It's the Children's Chorus of Maryland. How hard is it to get it right?"

"...Mangez Les Enfants de France"
"This is why consonants matter"

Children of the Magenta Line

A term used by old boomer pilots, old Designated Pilot Examiners, and employees at the Federal Aviation Administration, that refuse to accept the fact that times have changed and technology has improved in between the time the wright brothers first flew and when the Airbus A320neo first flew. These older pilots, usually refuse to acknowledge the fact that advances in aviation have made flying safer and more efficient. A derogatory term used to describe younger pilots that use the GPS functions of the airplane's avionics, like the Garmin G1000.
DPE - "That is not navigation by pilotage and dead-reckoning!

Piot Candidate- "But I made all my waypoints and dead-reckoning times."

DPE- "Even though you made all of your points within ACS, You loaded your route into the GPS and followed the Magenta Line! You young pilots are just Children of the Magenta Line!"

children of the soil

1. Politcally correct term for redneck or hillbilly.
That guy's a redneck!

I think they prefer to be called "children of the soil".
