I hate to be that guy, but...

A phrase people can add before saying something nitpicky, like correcting you on some inconsequential fact.

When someone does something that is a combination of a cringe, oof, and disappointment.

Jake had two girls that liked him. One was nice the other was toxic. Jake went for the toxic one and their relationship crumbled. Jake now can’t come crawling back to the nice girl. My friends and I, hate to see it.

I hate to say it, but

I LOVE to say it. A statement that is always followed by a smug, judgemental, self-satisfied remark about someone else. Similar in many ways to I'm not being racist, but, the statement is used in a vain attempt to get people to think that it pains the person to say what he is about to say, when in fact it is plainly obvious that saying what he is about to say gives him a great deal of satisfaction.

Hate to see it happen is a casual but common phrase that can be used in most conversations. Say someone has died in the family, hate to see it happen, say you break a leg, hate to see it happen, say ur dog’s left legs brother’s cousin’s aunt is on the loose again, hate to see it happen. The list can go on forever because you just hate to see it happen.
