The colloquial term for any cases of traveler's diarrhea contracted by tourists visiting Mexico. The name humorously refers to Moctezuma II, the ruler of the Aztec civilization who was defeated and slaughtered by Hernán Cortés, the Spanish conquistador. The white Spainiards would then continue to enslave or obliterate the Aztec people.
It is said that whenever a white person has diarrhea while visiting Mexico, he is suffering the wrath of Montezuma's revenge.
An occurrence during an episode of Montezuma's revenge where one needs to relieve a build-up of gas, but in doing so might run the risk of a shart attack.
Montezuma, Moctezuma, or Montecuzoma, was a Mexica (or Aztec) name. It's meaning is "His Angry Lord, Archer of the Sky". There were two Montezuma emperors. The first was nicknamed "HuehueMontezuma" (old Montezuma) or Montezuma Ilhuicamina (Montezuma the big one), although contemporarly known as Montezuma I. The second was Montezuma Xocoyotzin (Montezuma the young one), or Montezuma II. The former was the Mexica emperor (nahuatl: Hueytlatoani) who met Hernán Cortés and his men, mistook him with Quetzalcóatl (who was said to be "tall, white and with a great beard") and treated the Spaniards like gods. He died after being held captive by the Spanish conquistadores and stoned to death by the Aztecs.
