Racists hate it because it typically means more of the evil, oppressive Equinsu Ocha, and criminals hate it because crime rates typically plummet. The parasite class is sometimes resultingly displaced in favor of the working middle-class. An unfortunately occasional by-product of gentrification is an increase in a liberal presence which benefits nobody.
The coffee shop and new park which replaced the two old crack houses are quite an upgrade to the neighborhood (thank goodness for gentrification)!
