rhetorical dissonance

when someone doesn't take the default politically correct rhetorical position of their own stance in discussing a political issue. It leads to a false perception of cognitive dissonance by their audience, when in fact the person is abandoning rhetoric and examining the issue without rhetorical bias. It leads to an ally of a cause to be seen as the enemy for not falling in line with automatically assumed rhetorical positions.

When Bob argued the following, "I am a full supporter of gender equality. However, the SCUM Manifesto doesn't help the feminist cause. Many feminists become just as bad as chauvinists, when their responses to sexism become just as polemic," he was seen as criticizing feminism, creating rhetorical dissonance. Another example is the following: "Gay rights are very important, and they should be equal. That being said, the APA has established that orientation changes over a lifetime. The reality is that some people can and do choose to be gay, not that there's anything wrong with that."

1. When a man really wants to have sex with a woman but knows he shouldn't because she's involved, too crazy, related, etc.

2. When you have a kink that turns you on but at the same time would not like to explore it

3. When a man is gay but is having trouble admitting it due to societal norms, pressure from parents, etc. (Go for it, dude! It's okay!)

1. If my sister looked like Scarlett Johansson, I would be experiencing some serious cocknitive dissonance.

2. It's a fantasy of mine to have sex in public, but I don't want to get arrested; it's giving me serious cocknitive dissonance.

3. I seriously doubt that they're a couple; if they are, she's blind because he's clearly experiencing profound cocknitive dissonance.

Linguistic dissonance

Language, as with many forms of complex communication, is linear. Its use and context establish tone (the attitude in which the author conveys), with the logical expectation of consistent perpetuation. When one exhibits an unanticipated deviation from the aforementioned parameters, such that its register, dialect, and/or vocabulary is at a significant distance from that previously employed, its effect can best be described as being "totally fucking weird"

This is also known as being "sophisticated as hell"; however, linguistics prefer to call it "linguistic dissonance".

"In the immortal words of Ayn Rand, STFU n00b." ~ A common variation of the sort of linguistic dissonance that one becomes acquainted with when "debating" on 4chan.

Cognitive Dissonance

The paradoxical belief that Marxism and Communism lead to the dissolution of Government.

Which happens a lot, because the only historical examples of people to totally overthrow and eliminate government were communistic or directly Marxist. How does that fact give me cognitive dissonance?
