RI/MA slang for a bubbler, a.k.a. water fountain (where you drink from, not to be confused with a water fountain you throw coins into at a mall; which is why we say bubbla cuz the watter bubbles out)

A Yiddish(Jewish) word, traditionally used by Grandmothers, that references children. The modern usage of the word can be extended to any person that is considered darling and close to one's heart. One could go as far as to interchange the word "bubala" for any pet name (i.e.: "Dear", "Darling", "Honey", "Sweetness and Light", "Love Muffin", "Lover", "Snookums", "Baby", "Hot pants", "Boo", "Philly Buns", "Sweet Cheeks", "Mammacita", "Suga'", etc).

bubbla

Drinking fountain. The word is predominantly used in parts of the upper Midwest, Rhode Island, and Australia. It is said that in a couple of places that the usage may be related to the Wisconsin-based manufacturer, Kohler, which marketed a fountain under the Bubbler name around 1914.

Within New England, "bubbla" is used most in the State of rhode island, but because of the state's close proximity to Mass, many residents of Mass may also be familiar with the term.

A term used in New England, especially by people from Rhode Island and Massachusetts, to describe what most other folks call a water fountain. To the New Englander, the term water fountain tends to remind them of a regular, show-offy fountain.

NEer: The bubblah.
Non-NEer: I beg your pardon?
