(2 words) Short for American Pit Bull Terrier. A breed recognized by the UKC and ABDA historically bred for hog hunting, eventually for dog fighting. The AKC recognizes this breed as the American Staffordshire Terrier- a show line strain of the APBT since the 1930's. The name Pit Bull exclusively applies to the purebred American pit Bull Terrier.

also known as the Staffordshire Bull Terrier, the pit bull terrier is a very sweet and lovable dog and a good companion, but unfortunately is often ridiculed and disrespected for it being known as a fight dog. people put these sweet canines in dogs rings and force them to fight. if the dog(s) have been fighting for too long, they are humanely euphemized, which is really unfair cuz it aint the dogs fault, its the MASTER'S FAULT.

people should not be afraid of pit bulls. they are one of the most loyal dogs breeds and should be treated with more respect and put in more loving homes.

the pit bull is the most sweetist most gental and fastest to please his or her owner i have had 3 in my life yes they can be mean if someone is really trying to hurt me or some thing like that also if you hear any thing about pitbulls hating cat they r full of shit all 3 of my dogs and the mother and father of theos dogs absolutely loved any cat. and last thing no a single damn pitbull is just gunna rip ur fuckin head off becuse it a damn pitbull it was the owners falt that happend not the damn dogs falt or there is more to the story like someone tryed to eather hurt the dog or one of the dogs owners so shut the fuck up and quit blaiming the damn breed most generaly it is the persons falt that they got bit or the owner abuses and or mistreats the dog!!

Pit Bull

A breed of dog that is often stereotyped as being violent, when they are actually some of the most gentle creatures on this planet. Ranked 2nd behind the trusty Golden Retriever, Pit Bulls aced the "temperant canine" exams.

Because of their strong build and "iron-jaws" Pit Bulls are often trained for dog fighting and used as guard dogs, giving them a violent reputation. Many of the weaker Pit Bulls are left wounded and bound to die in the streets by Human Hands. These wonderful and kind-hearted dogs have potential to be outstanding pets and companions when treated correctly, and still thousands are sent to be euthanized for no reason every year.

I rescued my Pit Bull mix from an abuse shelter, and he's never even barked at anyone, and is very patient with cats and children.

Pit bull

1.Once called the nanny dog in England because it was so sweet and caring. Now a stereotype for "evil" dogs. Will do anything for its owner and very lovable. Loves its owner and young children if raised correctly. Are called pit bulls because used to fight in pits. Absolutely cute when pups.

2. A stereotype used for mixed breed dogs who fall under the description of a pit bull.

My grandmother was afraid of my pit bull and then as soon as she met her she fell in love with the dog.

When I hand-feed my pit bull she will try not to bite me and uses her lips to mouth food from my hand.
