A term that former liberals co-opted when they discovered that their delusional beliefs didn't fit any recognized definition of the word liberal.
These fools are frequently self-loathing, unsuccessful losers who can only feel better by projecting their failures onto their opponents.
A "Progressive" is identified by the following behaviors/beliefs:
- Knows what is best for everybody else
- Claims to be well-informed even though they get their news/talking points from the Daily KOS and/or MSNBC
- Believes that personal wealth is evil yrt they fawn over wealthy celebrities and limousine liberals
- Believes corporations and profit are evil, and will tweet about this 24/7 on their fancy iPad
- Thinks name-calling and demonizing opponents is the same as debate
- Accuses every person with a dissenting view of being a racist
- Supported Occupy Wall Street from the comfort of their living room, not the rape tent
- Drives a Prius with a COEXIST bumper sticker
- Believes in the rights of everyone, except those who disagree
- Thinks the Constitution is flawed because they can't control all 3 branches of government
- Believes YOUR success could only have come at THEIR expense
- Believes Al Gore is right about global warming, even though his carbon footprint 100X of the average person
- Thinks voter identification is racist, because it discriminates against dead people

Originally coined for progressive metal (aka prog metal), it is now used for almost every major genre. (On a side note listening to progressive music is like watching a good movie).
Progressive metal is defined by much lengthier songs, averaging 8-10 minutes each (with instances of 20, 40, and 60 minute songs that are also played live) with heavy emphasis placed on the technical aspects of playing instruments, a continuance of the progression from classical music that it's parent genres, thrash/speed, and heavy metal introduced. The lyrics are an advancement of the poetic harmony introduced in the lyrics of the speed/thrash metal bands Megadeth, Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax, and Exodus. Also...progressive music tends to well up emotional responses very well, especially live.
The progressive metal movement was started by Fates Warning as they began to move from the Iron Maiden like sound of their first two albums. The term however was coined to describe Dream Theater, who is considered by most to be the band that defined the genre.

Get the progressive mug.University educated younger working professionals often living in newer, trendy, upscale type of neighborhoods. Most believe their higher education puts them a good cut above most poor in society and will lead them to a peaceful, quality, happy successful existence in life. Some men living this type of lifestyle can often been seen riding bicycles and often enough put an 'S' on the back of their car windshields at least in Albuquerque, NM or put something about 'Superman' on their license plate to boost their ego or accomplishments. These types of people are the new super hero's in society at least to their own type. Contrary to what most believe they are NOT liberals but more conservatives. They try to 'defy all stereotypes' so the critics can't possibly classify them into any negative based category of which has worked well. It is a trendy respectable thing for them to advocate positive change for humanity or environment but they often look after their own interests in practical reality.
A younger progressive University educated lady asks me what are you buying all the vinegar for? She says your trying to 'go green' and save the environment aren't you? She says that's such a nobel cause as she checks out with her organic veggies and fruits. I refer back that I'm just poor and vinegar happens to work better or be cheaper than other cleaning supplies. She immediately takes a disinterest after that response never looking back again.
