University educated younger working professionals often living in newer, trendy, upscale type of neighborhoods. Most believe their higher education puts them a good cut above most poor in society and will lead them to a peaceful, quality, happy successful existence in life. Some men living this type of lifestyle can often been seen riding bicycles and often enough put an 'S' on the back of their car windshields at least in Albuquerque, NM or put something about 'Superman' on their license plate to boost their ego or accomplishments. These types of people are the new super hero's in society at least to their own type. Contrary to what most believe they are NOT liberals but more conservatives. They try to 'defy all stereotypes' so the critics can't possibly classify them into any negative based category of which has worked well. It is a trendy respectable thing for them to advocate positive change for humanity or environment but they often look after their own interests in practical reality.
A younger progressive University educated lady asks me what are you buying all the vinegar for? She says your trying to 'go green' and save the environment aren't you? She says that's such a nobel cause as she checks out with her organic veggies and fruits. I refer back that I'm just poor and vinegar happens to work better or be cheaper than other cleaning supplies. She immediately takes a disinterest after that response never looking back again.

A trendy, upscale North Eastern to far North Eastern affluent housing development section in Albuquerque, NM which costs well into the hundreds of thousands to own. The residents are well educated, rounded, proper, younger suburban working professionals who obtained a degree from a University like UNM. They are very progressive oriented mostly believing a well rounded education is the key to a bright, peaceful and prosperous future. Many might drive a clean looking Toyota 4Runner; Chevy Tahoe, Chevy Denali or simliar makes of vehicles but no one type of vehicle will guarantee they are the wealthy upscale type even a lexus. Some people here will try and project wealth(cloning the upscale people) with a Chrysler 300c which has increasingly become more popular also. Nob Hill in Albuquerque is known social hang out spot for these people and known as 'sNobb Hill' by some which is directly across from the University of New Mexico. Uptown Albuquerque is a more recent development also geared towards these upscale types but the success has been questionable up to this point in time due to location. Certain places downtown on weekends can also be a trendy upscale hangout spot like the Library. Despite all the economic differences from economically disadvantaged to trendy upscale most appreciate Albuquerque for it's diversity and peaceful relaxing lifestyle.
A redneck moves from a more crude socio-economically disadvantaged town to discover a lot of wealthy, trendy elite type of individuals in the city. He wonders what all this confusion is about what is going on here. He is watching the news one night and the news reporter refers to these trendy people or places as 'upscale' so he now has a word to describe the progressive attitude he has seen.

Often used in meaning you have created the situation yourself and you should suffer for it for your own stupidity. Conservatives love to use it and imply it's a lack of 'personal responsibility' for the person under going the hardship or bad situation. It can also tie into darwinism and the idea it's survival of the most fit or having the most prepared minds.
A guy tells a woman online that he got divorced and now has to pay child support. She says, it's your own fault for not getting to know her better and it sucks to be you!
