pseudo-intellectualism

The practice of using sophisticated terms and/or concepts incorrectly or without thorough understanding of their intricate nuances and thus resulting in a flawed body of knowledge (i.e. erroneous beliefs). Typically people who partake in pseudo-intellectualism do so with authority and conviction as a result of some effort to understand the concepts and/or terms but lack the mental capacity to synthesize true knowledge from their efforts and thus typically do not know they are intellectually mistaken.
Yeah, that dude Phillip and I got into a political discussion and he started talking about how Sanders wants to subsidize everything and how Trump economic policies will increase the value of the dollar. He clearly doesn't even know what the word "subsidize" means, that there is a fine example of some pseudo-intellectualism.

coffeeshop intellectualist

Part of the stupid 'public intellectualism' movement of poets and artentainers, who perform in Starbucks™ Cafes.
Also called starbuckism/ starbucking.
See also, beauty shop Nagel.
Guitar-wielding fake coffeeshop intellectualists come and play their ditties at Starbucks, Abdoun and Boooks@Cafe coffeeshops in Amman all with an air of put-on knowledge of 'cords' and fretboard theatrics, while they haven't got the first molecule of taste. They should at least buy good gits and read some good poetry.

Intellectualist

Someone who expends a lot of effort on maintaining the image of being an intellectual. Mostly concerned about the appearance of being seen as intelligent in a voice chat, such as in Discord. The etymology of the word is a hybrid of the words intellectual and illusionist. Someone (probably stupid) that tries very hard to appear smart by doing things like talking over other people. gishgalloping, and using every logical fallacy they can to trick other stupid people into thinking that they've won arguments. They're closer to Alex Jones than an actual intellectual.
People on the Intellectualist server on Discord argue like klingons. They're more worried about winning arguments than constructing good arguments, which is why they deserve the name intellectualist. They're not actual intellectuals. (except maybe for Denzcon).
