In European slang, to "give up" someone during questioning (most often from government authorities), rat, snitch, tattle-tale, etc. Derived from Nazi Germany and occupied nations as "snitching" on Jews, as well as others targeted by the regime and those housing them, often resulted in those people being put to death via gas chamber.
