Noob Chord

A guitar chord that is played with all open strings. Often played by people who don't know how to play guitar and just fake it by randomly strumming open strings.
Joe ("playing" a guitar): *bring* *ding* *bring* *ding*

Matt: Man, just stop. All you're doing is playing the noob chord.

The Red Chord

The Red Chord is a brutal grindcore band from Revere, Massachusetts. Simply put, they know how to shred. Their album Fed Through the Teeth Machine is a nasty, death metal fused assault on your ears and lever lets up from start to finish. The Red Chord's music is novelistic and impressionistic; you probably won't be able to fully wrap your head around what you've just heard after a single listen.
After listening to The Red Chord, I have come to the conclusion that the music on Fed Through the Teeth Machine is like a hulking hammer that rips and tears at the fabric of all that is trend-driven.

If you want to have your bones reduced to dust and your brain taken out scrambled and put back in by music, then The Red Chord are up for that task with Fed Through the Teeth Machine.

power chord

A musical chord formed by a root note, its fifth, and its octave. Among the easiest types of chords to play on the guitar, due to an easily shiftable fingering position, and the power chord's ability to "fit" over both major and minor melodies. Vital to heavy metal and punk music.
Old Black Sabbath and AC/DC albums have a lot of simple yet great power chord-strumming songs.

Jesus chords

The basic major and minor chord shapes, as generally played on an acoustic guitar. They are commonly referred to as the 'Jesus chords' simply because they make up the majority of Christian worship music. Singer/songwriters are also well-known for playing these chords frequently in their music.

A guitarist who is only playing 'Jesus chords' (and not using a capo) will rarely, if ever, move his hand past the 4th fret.

Major chords:
E, F (barre), G, A, C, and D major

Minor chords:
E and A minor, B minor (movable), and barre chords that don't include the 3rd finger (movable)
I can kinda play guitar...well, I know the Jesus chords, at least.

Power Chord

A common 'chord' used mostly in gutiar based music. It is made by playing the root, 5th and 8th.

For the person who said that parallel 5ths and 8ths shouldn't be even used, I think you'll find this is only relevant to Baroque and Classical music. What about Debussy and his use of 5ths and 8ths? In the right context, it can sound fine.

So please, stop living in the 18th century.
