Quare Studies

A formulation of queer theory with attention given to race and class. Most current formulations of queer theory either ignore the categories of race and class altogether or theorize their effects in discursive rather than material terms. To suture that gap, "quare" studies as a vernacular rearticulation and deployment of queer theory accommodates racialized sexual knowledge.

He, a young, African-American, Queer boy from the Harlem ghetto, felt he never was able to relate to the theories and processes discussed in his Queer biographies class, until they discussed Richard Nugent. Studying Richard Nugent --American writer, painter and important figure in the Harlem Renaissance -- offered him more than an exploration of Queer studies, it was a moment of self-realization in his Quare identity; he no longer felt fragmented between his racial, class, and sexuality identities. The class was no longer just about his Queer identity because it had evolved into Quare Studies.

Where people go when there's nothing else to do but debate each other's personal lives, talk about mundane shit, and waste every other wednesday pretending they have some sort of sick power over other people, when really, only other members of SCG care about SCG or have to adhere to its rules. frequently its members get drunk or stoned before and during its meetings, and often times its executive board is likewise. most people fall asleep during its meetings.

Erin failed her exam Thursday morning because a student community government, inc. meeting lasted until 2 a.m. the previous night, due to debating whether or not to hold a debate.

The Glenbrook Academy of International Studies

A special division of Glenbrook South and North with 120 students at any given time, 30 students per grade level, that have special privileges. These unique species commonly affiliate themselves with hardcore debate, classical music, too much technology, and often have nothing better to do than their homework. Students in the "Academy" are often labeled "Academites".

Typical conversation between a teacher and a student from the Glenbrook Academy of International Studies:

Teacher: Who are you?

Academite: I'm in the Academy and was wondering if I could--

Teacher: Yes.

athlete-student

Commonly known as student-athlete. However, they are more an athlete first and student second. The athlete-student spends more time dedicated to their sport than to their academics, since they are obligated to hours of practice, injury treatment, travel, games/matches,coach's meeting, etc.

Football is taking up my life that I don't have time to study. We're supposed to be student-athletes, but our ridiculous coaches make sure that we're athlete-students.
