Task dragging

A workplace behavior where an employee intentionally slows down their work pace—often under the guise of thoroughness or caution—to delay starting a new task, align idle time with scheduled breaks, or avoid additional workload. Common tactics include stretching simple tasks, repeating non-essential steps, and selectively working efficiently only when motivated or supervised.
