When a word/phrase/symbol/meme etc. is wrongly labeled by mass media, and then becomes that thing due to the attention i.e. Pepe becoming white nationalist symbol after media calling it such and then white nationalist picking it up as an actual symbol.

Bro! Don’t do the ok sign, that’s a white nationalist symbol!
