Trauma Brag

To brag, highlight, or bring attention to hardship that one has experienced. Examples include highlighting one's experience of poverty, illness, abuse, or adversity

These types of brags get attention for higher status signalers and dismissal for low status ones

There's the head of that bank trauma bragging about his illness in order to get more clout in the newspaper headlines

A social media hash tag that is a brag.

If one were to post that statement on their social media profile, it could denote a hash tag called hash brag. #hashbrag

Victim bragging.

Compound Verb.

Something politically incorrect is said or done regarding an individual which is actually a compliment. The mindset of the target is often as follows.

>Hey!
>Hey Everyone!
>Look At Me!
>I'm so attractive and desirable that some guy spent a ton of time obsessing over me
>He's so obsessed with my beauty that he spent a ton of time imagining me naked
>cuz I'm so hot
>ME
>PAY ATTENTION TO ME

The target of a wolf whistle or cat call can express outrage but the give away is the smile they'll have on their face while doing so.

The following anecdote illustrates victim bragging in process.

I was once walking home from Uni with a girl and some guy catcalled her from a passing car.
She spent the entire remainder of the day telling everyone we met how terrible and demeaning the incident was, all the while wearing a shit-eating grin on her face. That catcall was her proudest achievement that year I'd imagine.

You're just victim bragging.

That catcall had her victim bragging for the rest of the day.

Grumble brag

When a person, often intentionally, uses a complaint about their wealth or good fortune as a thinly veiled opportunity to boast about it. Related to humble brag, backhanded compliment

"I can't believe my father-in-law left his brand new luxury car to us when he died. It's such a hassle dealing with all of the paperwork."

"Please. Stop. I can't stand how your grumble brag is pulling at my heartstrings."

The well-concealed cockiness of someone like a public prosecutor when grand jury indictments come back for a former president.

"Did you see Alvin Bragging on the TV when that orange clown came in and got fingerprinted? Man he looked whipped when he croaked out 'not guilty' ... his collar was all stained and shit, his wife was no where to be seen. He was ass-kicked for sure"

"Don't go all smug on me thinking you caught me cheating with a porn-star -- there's no Alvin Bragging going on here today."
