Term given to a crewmember of the original crew of a newly commissioned ship.

Implies that a crew member was around when the ship was being built and therefore has bragging rights to the ownership of one of the deck planks in the main deck.

The odd little stalk atop of genuine beret. Also a tuft of stray hair that simply refuses to lie flat. Or a stalk on a piece of fruit you have to pull off prior to consumption (say, on an apple or strawberry).
