A manipulative tactic in which a person (typically a straight male) uses guilt tripping and emotional blackmail to attract (or "fish" for) a romantic partner by abusing the potential victim's sense of empathy and making the victim constantly pity the person who is manipulating them. (otherwise known as the "fisher")

Fish on Thursdays

In the 1800s in New York, fisherman would bring their catch to market on Wednesdays. On Thursday, left over fish would be left to rot and fish markets reeked.
