Coincides with: mid to late Gen COVID (Japan) / (Gen Zalpha / late Gen Z depending on one's definition) (Pew/USA) / Heisei Kouhan (translation: Last half of Heisei era 1989-2004/5 = early, 2005/6-2019 being late) (Japan) / 1st wave Homelanders (4th turning) (Strauss-Howe/USA) 2006-2014 = first wave, 2015-2021/22 = second wave, 2022/2023 = third wave.
Kids who knew pre-COVID years, but don't know much about the time before iPhones/iPads. These are the K-8 kids at the beginning of the COVID pandemic and graduate high school sometime between the mid-20s and early-30s (c. 2005/6-2014/5). Incidentally, in the Strauss-Howe generational theory, this will be the first wave of Homelanders (4th turning) 2015-2021/22 being 2nd wave, 2022/23-29 being 3rd wave. These kids grew up with the iPad, OG Fortnite kids.
This is after the Yutori (1988?-1994/5?), Satori Generation (1996/7?-2004/2005) in Japan. This is also after the early gen COVID (Japan): 2001-2004/5.
The term was coined by Japanese high school students in various 2022/2023 surveys, claiming that they defined their generation as Gen COVID as the main indicator, and Generation Z+/ZZZ as a second choice. Refers to da friendly wave, nod,. smile, etc. dat you courteously preform in response to a passing motorist/pedestrian who honks or calls hello to you, but you are unable to identify said greeter because the person has already moved too far away by the time you "get turned around" to see who it was.
A sportsman friend of mine experienced a classic case of "generic greeting" whenever he visited my area --- "The only thing I can figure is that I must have a vehicle that looks a lot like a local resident's, because everyone waves eagerly to me when I drive through town, and yet I don't really know anyone here. But heck, that's perfectly okay with me --- I dunno why they wave, but I just always wave back!"

Origin:
Borrowed from German "Wellblech-Generation" (literally: corrugated-sheet-generation)
While boomers still tend to name millennials "generation Y" (modest reference to themselves), millennials fought back, and renamed the older generations.
It refers to a parable about the difference between the generations: "While we millennials and younger build real houses, they boomers and older still build theirs with corrugated sheets only."

They will be the first generation that collectively takes away from society as opposed to contributing to it. Examples:
Their contributions to technology will be less intuitive, useless, and provide solutions to problems that didn't exist.
Their contributions to culture will be unoriginal, awkward, and tasteless since that is all they know.
They will abandon what remains of the social dress code, wearing pajama pants to funerals, leggings to prom, and basketball shorts to weddings.
Lastly, they will determine that the risk of offending somebody is too great to engage strangers in any type of dialogue and make it a hate crime to do so. Confusingly, they decided the word 'crime' was too offensive and now use 'offense of the oppressed'. These are punishable by the offender receiving a direct deposit of $2,000 in to their bank account for each offense, $3,000 if they don't have a bank account.
