Definition:
A Respectful Stan — a fan who supports an artist, creator, or public figure with genuine admiration while respecting their boundaries, privacy, and humanity.

Unlike obsessive or intrusive fandom behavior, an R-Stan believes that true support includes empathy, consent, and kindness. Being an R-Stan means celebrating someone’s work, not controlling their life.

Origin:
Coined by a fan who wanted to redefine what it means to support someone, after noticing how often the term fan is used for people who act disrespectfully toward artists.
The “R” stands for Respectful.

Un R-Stan (abreviatura de Respectful Stan, “fan respetuoso”) es una persona que admira y apoya a un artista, creador o figura pública de forma genuina y con respeto.
Un R-Stan comprende que la admiración real implica empatía, límites y humanidad. No busca poseer ni invadir la vida del artista, sino valorar su arte con cuidado y consideración.

Origen:
Término creado por una fan que quiso redefinir lo que significa apoyar a alguien, luego de ver cómo la palabra fan se usa también para personas que actúan sin respeto. La “R” representa Respectful (“Respetuoso/a”).

Smart-Stan

Smart-Stan: A modern phenomenon inspired by Eminem’s "Stan," describing someone who repeatedly messages you on their smartphone and becomes extremely anxious or frustrated when you don’t respond promptly. Whether you’re busy, asleep, or simply don’t want to engage, they take it to the extreme, embodying that intense, obsessive energy. When they finally meet you in person, they can get really angry and frustrated, and calling them a "Smart-Stan" would make perfect sense to them.

Lee: Bruv, I used to work with this guy named Paul, and he was a proper smart-stan. He’d message me and get all worked up if I didn’t reply LOL.
Frank: really? bruv LOL.
Lee: He’d confront me in person, and I’d just laugh he. go mental say I hate it when people don't text back and then I started calling him Stan Bruv and he told everyone, and everyone laughed, even he found it funny.
Frank: That's bear jokes. Bruv LOL.
