a very artistic genre of music that involves alot of skill and concentration to master, when you first get into listening to metal, it may make your ears hurt like hell, then your able to listen to it when your eardrums adapt so you can hear the lyrics, those of no expierience will most likely not be able to understand it and will just say it is complete shit and go back to their Eminem and 50 cent idols. when you get the ears there is no going back.
Rap Kid walks down the street and spots a metal fan listening to his headphones.
Rap Kid:"that u listen 2 is just screamin n shit, u aint no real music white boy."
metal fan:"alright if its really that bad maybe you can stand listening to it."
Rap kid hesitates for a minute.
"gimme your headphones emo."
Rap kid turns it up full volume.
Metal fan:"thats not a good idea."
rap kid:"i can stand this shit"
Presses play.........head blows up so there is nothing left but everything lower jaw down. Metal fan shruggs, whipes the blood and brains of his headphones, mutters "idiot" at the corpse and continues down the street

Herd Mentality

A very common disease that is often displayed in Politically-Correct People.

One typical example of this is when a chorus sings a patriotic song such as "The Star-Spangled Banner", the audience thinks they should stand up and sing along just in case anyone wants to question their patriotism. Quite hard to cure, highly amusing.
Random movie theater audience member: Wow, that was such a great movie that I think I'll get up and clap!

*the whole audience notices and does the same*

Another more sensible audience member: ...They do know that they're applauding at an inanimate object, right?

Me: Poor souls, they've been inflicted with Herd Mentality.

depressive black metal

A sub genre of the black metal art, where the music plays a very dark, almost depressing atmosphere that gives you the gloomy, sad impression on life, depressing you with the desperate cry of haunted screams, to the slow, suicidal vibe of guitars. Good examples of depressive black metal are Nocturnal Depression, Make A Change...Kill Yourself, Xasthur, and Shining.
Nocturnal Depression's "Soundtrack To A Suicide" is a very bleak, depressive black metal album.

death metal

Sub-genre of Metal where the musicians are extremely talented and play as fast and technical as humanely possible, yet still wont hardly sell any records or get the recognition they deserve.

Song structure is typically like classical music: It's almost non existent. Melody changes ever few seconds, drums change on a dime, and singing (or growling, pig squeals, screaming, etc.) often pops in and out.

Changing melodies typically make death metal less memorable to casual fans, which is why you don't really see it on MTV (Well, that and the death growl vocals creep people out).

There is also Melodic death metal, where the growl is replaced with a scream, the melody doesn't change as much, and keyboards are typically added, and deathcore, which is a fusion of hardcore and death metal. These genres are sometimes criticized by death metalheads for changing true death metal.
Death metal: Necrophagist, Morbid Angel, Nile, Cannibal Corpse, Deicide, Dying Fetus, Behemoth, Death, Prostitute Disfigurement, Alchemist, Possessed, Atheist, God Dethroned
Melodic Death Metal: In Flames, Dark Tranquillity, Detonation
Deathcore: Job for a Cowboy (early), Despised Icon, I Killed the Prom Queen

If you listen to death metal and all you hear is noise and random banging of drums, you don't deserve to listen (or criticize) it.
