Also known as "Bosozoku (暴走族)", are a group of
people who cause trouble on Japanese roads.
To cite a few examples, they modify their mufflers to produce a rhythmic roar in the middle of the
night, or drive in a serpentine or high-
speed manner. Others install cowls and aero parts to stand out.
Most Chinsodan use motorcycles, but they sometimes use cars.
Most of the Chinsodan are teenagers, but there are also "Kyushakai (旧車會)" who are working adults and run amok with their former friends, nostalgic for the past.
There is also a women-only Chinsodan called "Ladies (レディース)"
In order to avoid Japanese
police taking pictures of Chinsodan license plates to identify drivers and then
cracking down on them, Chinsodan take measures to
make themselves less identifiable, such as bending their license plates or installing upward-facing parts.
Famous Chinsodan include "Dragon (怒羅権)" by
Chinese Residual Orphans, "Black Emperor (ブラックエンペラー)", and "
CRS Coalition (CRS連合)" which is a combination of three groups, "Alley Cats (アーリーキャッツ)", "Route 20 (ルート20)", and "Specter (スペクター".
They are also known for having Yakuza, called "Ketsumochi (ケツ持ち)", meaning "supporters" funding them.
