JPEG fallacy

A logical fallacy where one reductively presents an idea or object in terms of it's basic fundamental parts, missing the point of it, often to make an argument seem more simple or valid than it would be with the added context, similarly to how detail is lost with the compression of a JPEG.

Person A: (raging at a game)
Person B: "Why're you getting so mad? It's just pixels on a screen, bro." (An example of the JPEG fallacy, because sure, it is "pixels on a screen", in the most basic sense, but it's grossly reduced.)

A playful shorthand for J-pop (Japanese pop music). Used casually in conversations about music.

JPC

An acronym for "Japanese Popular Culture", including anime, tokusatsu, manga, light novels and Japanese video games. The term is primarily used in an academic context, however can be used within the otaku subculture to refer to their (or rather, our) particular interests. I find it to be particularly useful as, unlike terms like APC, it can also include tokusatsu.
