Degrees of Ignorance

Starting with any article on Wikipedia, the number of clicks that are required for you to find a sentence that you recognize/understand is your degree of ignorance.

I looked up trace theory the other day, but in order to understand that, I had to click through to free monoid, and from their to the entry on monoid, and from there to algebraic structure, which understand. So, I don't understand trace theory by 3 degrees of ignorance.

Reverse Ignorance

Term for when a person likes an imported Japanese movie just because its Japanese. He believes that by liking this film, people will think he is "deep" and "artistic." Once someone points out that the movie sucked, He says it's because ignorant Americans only like movies that have action, car crashes, and special effects, while himself being ignorant to the fact that no matter what, the movie had no plot and made absolutely no sense whatsoever. He fails to realize that although the Japanese director tried his hardest, he will never produce anything close to a movie. These people often mistake the properties of a movie with those of an art project. Most Japanese films would be beautiful art projects, but suck as movies because they lack a plot.

He thought he would sound deep and intelligent when he criticized Devin for not liking Aniko Hosogawa's "Dreams," But as Devin pointed out, he was just another victim of reverse ignorance. He killed himself shortly after because he couldn't stand the intense might of Devin's Pure Skill.

Willful Ignorance

Noun: Making the conscious decision to deny facts and reality because you have such a fragile ego that if you admit you are wrong your whole world would implode in a fiery mess of gore.

Ironically practiced most often by people who claim to have a deep appreciation for science and truth.

wealth ignorance

People who were once not so wealthy that became wealthy and are ignorant to fact that their wealth changes their personality and the way they treat their friends/family.

Use their wealth to have something to talk about to friends/family who do not. Ignorant to the fact that they are sounding selfish. Also ignorant to friends/family who they see need help but do not offer. Just talk about having to spend money on selfish needs. Then if they are asked for help and they do, they treat the ones they help with no respect. Have complete wealth ignorance.

brute force and ignorance

The approach to problem solving that uses overwhelming mass (of money, people (particularly programmers) military power, etc) to solve a problem but ignores any requirement to consider how best to apply the mass of resources available or alternatives to its mass use.

Three examples: 1. NASA Astronauts pen: Russian solution to NASA multi million Dollar 'works in zero gravity' pen - the pencil. 2. The second Gulf War. 3. In IT brute force and ignorance is a design technique adopted by many software houses; brute force coding that ignores (retrievable) knowledge of how problems have been solved before in more elegant ways.
