A recon date or reconnaissance date is a date with the only intention of becoming friends with a date in order to get invited to their social group events. E.g to find better looking options

I’m going on a recon date with Lauren tonight she’s about a 6 but she may have a hot social group so I’ll become friends with Lauren in order to penetrate her social group
