This term is used to explain the reasons NOT to date a co-worker.

The translation is essentially saying that you are not willing to mess up (shit) where you are making a living for your bread and butter (eats).

Even though I would love to go out with you, Simone, I don't shit where I eat.

Colonel Kilgore in “Apocalypse Now” in response to a soldier’s assertion that an area that he wants to surf is “Charlie’s point” He screams defiantly “CHARLIE DON’T SURF!” A more thought provoking way of saying “fuck that!” or “I’m not worried”

Before the movie was released, he had an option to either change it, or pay $5,000 (which was worth a lot!). He payed the fine of $5,000 and it the quote became famous, it topped AFI's list of top quotes.
