Wisconsin Death Trip

The Wisconsin Death trip is a celebration of life in the midst of death, and a celebration of death in the midst of life. Common elements of the death trip include:

The Funeral Drinking Game
Photography of the person laying in state.
The endless loop Seasons of Your Life animation montage of the deceased
Memorial Day cemetery picnics
Cookie Cutters made from home casting raised letters from tombstones
Meeting a future spouse at a funeral

Dealing with death stress by having particularly good sex

But, there are regional variations.

Some of this has been documented in a book called Wisconsin Death Trip by Michael Lesy, Charles Van Schaik, and Warren Susman.

I thought I could escape the Wisconsin Death Trip by moving away from Wisconsin until I realized that we all carry the Wisconsin death trip within us — even people who aren’t from Wisconsin.

deja coup

Deja Coup — the surreal realization that two years to the day after the attempted American Insurrection, the same congressmen who were instrumental in the attack on our democracy successfully made a bid for legitimate power on key congressional committees.

And on January 8th 2023 history rhymed when followers of Jair Bolsonaro followed the same game plan in Brazil attacking their Capitol building as Bolsonaro looked on in safety from Florida eating chicken fajita. He was later hospitalized for probable deniability — the political equivalent of a mobster being at a wedding during a major “hit”.

This is the psychological equivalent of a Vietnam era combat veteran being taken deep into a swamp to watch a fireworks display.

Some attribute the world wide rise of a militant and violent right to Steve Bannon; but, others say that he is just a highly mobile pimple on the ass of “this is how it’s always been.”

If you were a writer and submitted this as a plot for a novel; your editor would call you a hack and tell you that your writing was heavy handed.

This is the kind of world we’ve made!

long, deep, fast, and repeatedly — A skill attributed to a man who is capable of using both a knife and his penis in the exact same way. A warrior in the streets and a master in the sheets; he gets to the battle early and is definitely the last and only one to leave. If you are a woman he may call you back; and, if you are a man he will call the meat wagon and tell them where your body is cooling and to come and pick you up before you start to stink.

This type of character was best captured by Walter Mosley in the person of Raymond “Mouse” Alexander in his Easy Rawlins stories.

Watch out for the men from North Carolina; they will bring a knife to a fist fight and cut you long, deep, fast, and repeatedly. And the women say that they fuck the exact same way. They are bad motherf*ckers.

Detroit Car

A car stripped of all parts. Usually found sitting on four cinder blocks because the wheels are gone. It can also be a car that is simply gone, nowhere to be found.

Person 1: Dude, DJ's car was found in a chop shop behind that Mexican restaurant.
Person 2: Let me guess... only the frame left, right?
Person 1: Yea, and he didn't have insurance either.
Person 2: Well, it's just a Detroit car now.

Example 2:

Person 1: Well, Jay's car was stolen again.
Person 2: He should know by now not to park it in the street over night.
Person 1: Yea, just a shame, another perfectly good car lost to Detroit.
Person 2: Were the other three ever found?
Person 1: Nope, They're all Detroit cars now.
