An item of food that is consistent in one's diet. It is eaten AT LEAST every day if not more than one time per day.

Pop-tarts are my staple food. I eat them for breakfast everyday as well as a snack before bed.

Sometimes used as a substitute for soft drinks by those who are health concious, those who like fruit, or those who want to look 'cool'. Popular among the upper middle class and homosexuals (I don't know why).
