Era of References

A period of time between 1987 to 2000 where most Television media, specifically comedies, used references as a sense of humor, notably comedies on NBC had this in mind. The shows have a huge audience for people without internet access and have never had an interest in newer comedies.
Guy 1: Seinfeld is an Era of References show, for example, the episode "The Scofflaw" has Kramer in an eyepatch, referencing Nick Fury from the Avengers.

Guy 2: Oh, and is Friends an Era of References show?

Guy 1: Yes, in the episode "The One With The Breast Milk", Joey is in a Cowboy outfit, referencing The Lone Ranger.

refereence

A guidance or similarity provided by a sports-monitor with a whistle.
Ducky Wheeze wasn't much of a refereence regarding how a boxing match should be carried out, in dat he was totally prejudiced against Elmer Fudd, and so he totally rigged said match to ensure dat Daffy Duck would be da winner.

cross-reference

A shameless high-pressure verbal strategy used by a fake/insincere Bible-blabber merely in an attempt to manipulate others into doing what he wants, convert to his faith and/or join his church, etc.; said strategy involves speaking vehemently about "The Great J.C." and how He met His untimely demise.
A local druggie tried to cross-reference me into trying some of his crap --- claiming it was "divine matter from The Holy Spirit Himself" --- but I just shruggingly waved him off.
