A reference to the 1986 classic film, Top Gun. Used to refer to a situation where a straight male has homosexual feelings for another straight male. This gay crush or particular tension does not mean an individual is gay or that these feelings will ever be acted upon, only that the feelings involved in the friendship are of a particularly intimate nature and might be interpreted as homoerotic.

Nickname of the 150 bhp C20XE Vauxhall/Opel 2.0 litre DOHC car engine, based on the fact that it had a red L-shaped spark plug cover (although some later examples had a black cover, these are still referred to as "red tops" if the cover is L-shaped).
