Drum Majors

Annoying, Wanna-be Drill Sergeants, who are always messing up the tempos. Drum Majors lead the entire band in Marching Drills, Musical Rehearsals, etc. they basically exist so the Band Director doesn't really have to do anything.

drum-circle jerk

A thoughtless and generally narcissistic freestyle musician that frequents parties with the soul intent of hijacking the gathered crowd for his own need of an admiring audience. Typically, the musician will arrive with an instrument (drum, accoustic guitar, or didgeridoo) in hand, find the most densely populated area of the party, and proceed to play, despite the activities or interest of the people around him. Often, they will play with their eyes closed and conveniently ignore the jeers and looks of disapproval. Other musicians may be invited to play, but will quickly find themselves challenged by technique or speed in order to establish the better musician.

He started playing his drums in the middle of the living room, with complete disregard for the people that were chatting and enjoying each others company. I will never invite that drum-circle jerk to a party again!

drum machine

An electronic device designed to sequence sounds (kick drum, snare, etc.) to a pattern. Drum machines commonly have only 4 measures (with 4 beats). Drum machines are most commonly used by hip-hop and techno producers.

I just sequenced a kick drum on the first beat of each measure and a snare drum to the last two beats of the measure on my drum machine.

Most def the coolest thing you will ever lay eyes on. Anyone who plays one is immediatly considered cool and bang-able. And yes, drummer do enjoy smashing their drumsticks into things.

Drum Major

Self-proclaimed god of band. Usually is described as the director's bitch, a small price to pay to make everyone else his or her bitch. Wields incredible power during the fall, but loses it during spring, where the band is undergoing what is known as "concert season". Is particularly fond of newbies and works to take them under wing quickly

The drum major gave the order to march despite the complaints of several upperclassmen.
