Get the uber-1337 mug.The term 1337 H4x0r (1337 sp33k for Elite Hacker), is generally used to describe a PC gamer who is very good with using hacks (H4x) to obtain an unfair advantage. The term is most often an oxymoron because a player who uses cheats is generally not a good (5K1ll3d) player. In other words, this is an oxymoron because someone who is a hacker cannot be 1337.
A rare exception is this: in Halo for PC there was no way to enforce cheating, and in large clan war websites (like the old www.klanwars.com) many clans used hacks to stay on top. Thus, in very high ranking clan games, every player would be using hacks (ie:aimbots and wallhacks). Thus, the best H4x0rs could be considered 1337 compared to other hackers... a 1337 H4x0r.

'1337 sp33k' can be read as 'elite speak,' it is mostly just numbers (or symbols) that look slightly similar to letters. 'T' turns into '7' or '+' and 'S' is sometimes turned into '$'.
Despite the continued use of this code to avoid online cencoring, people who use 'elite speak' a great deal are generally mocked.

Then, with the release of massive multiplayer online roly playing games (MMORPG's), a few hackers began to play, and they used l33t in the game's chat system.
Now, several years later, l33t has permeated the entire Internet, being used both by those who are truly hackers, and people who use what they pick up.
133t comes in several rankings, starting at light l33t, up to hard 1337, and finally ending with ultra |_33¯|¯. There is also something that I will not try, and that is known as 'uber l33t,' in which neither letters nor numbers can be used. This is reserved to only the truly great, and almost requires a modified keyboard.
