A colloquial term used in online spaces primarily by people with left-of-centre political views to insult someone else with left-of-centre political views who
1. agrees with the Marxist-Leninist rejection of all forms of capitalism and imperialism, including liberal democracy, reformist socialism or a social democracy, and/or
2. does not outwardly criticize the Bolsheviks, Joseph Stalin, or the Soviet Union itself, especially during Stalin’s time as General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union.

the label "tankie" is used as an insult. it effectively replaced "commie" since communists actually identify as communists and wouldn't take offense being called commies.
nowadays tankie has become an umbrella term the right uses for "everyone i don't like" on par with "sjw" or "woke". sometimes even non-communist leftists get called tankies or rightists who oppose american imperialism

Get the tankiemug. Propaganda spreading fan or "useful idiot" engrandising the genocidal governments and histories of Stalin'esque communist governments. Usually that of the USSR, Communist China or Communist Cambodia.
The Tankie said the monstrous genocides committed by the CCP and CPK during Mao's cultural revolution didn't happen and the history books were actually written by "Nazis" and "umm actually don't you know the west all committed the only actual genocides in all of human history".
