(noun) Contraction of "dopaminergenic," used as slang among drug users initially to refer to compounds stimulating the release of dopamine from cortical neurons, or inhibition of their reuptake from synaptic interstices, such as cocaine, amphetamine and their analogs. The term's use has been extended more generally to include any euphoria-inducing compound (opioids, cannabis, etc.) although the term's use as a referent to those families of drugs has varied over time, as it has with regional popularity and availability.

When referring to drugs, the word "Dope" means Heroin. In the '50s and early '60s, straight people referred to pot as dope but when heroin gained popularity the meaning changed to mean heroin specifically.
Referring to other drugs like crack, coke, speed, meth etc as dope is an incorrect use of the word and dilutes its true meaning.
