Garry's Law

"When you tell people your goals you don’t achieve them." - Garry Newman.

Since I'm unable to post a link to his blog I will quote him:
I’ve made this point before, years and years ago. But I couldn’t find where I wrote it. So here it is again.

There’s a lot of reasons you shouldn’t tell people your idea. They might not like it. They might like it and steal it. They might convince you it’s a bad idea. They might convince you to change it into something else.

The biggest reason to keep your goal a secret is that once you start talking about something you’re going to do you don’t have to do it. In your mind you will have already done it. Their positive reaction to your idea is the reward. Actually doing the work seems stupid at that point. There’s no big prize at the end of actually doing it because it’ll be exactly what everyone expected. Which means you probably won’t do it.

And then it reflects badly on you. Next time you have an idea people will be slightly less enthusiastic because none of you ideas ever turn into anything. They’re just ideas.

Much better to get your head down and then show them your idea. More work for a bigger pay off.

After his blogpost, his community called 'Facepunch' decided to call this principle "Garry's Law".
Notch: Hey guys, look what we're working on!
*Notch shows 0X10C*

- A while later -

Notch: Nah imma quit dis.

gerrymentia

When a legislator gerrymanders so much, they forget what district they belong to.
“There goes poor Rep Schroer, suffering from gerrymentia. He’s gerrymandered so much, he doesn’t even know what district he lives in anymore.”

David Gerrold

a second rate writer based in the USA whose main claim to fame is writing the TV episode "The Trouble with Tribbles" for the popular STAR TREK television show. Recently he can be seen selling overpriced stuffed "tribbles" at various science fiction conventions he attends. They usually go for $20 each. He also has a website in which he asks readers to donate money for various personal requests (in the summer of 2006 it was to give his dog an operation the dog needed).
He has written some novels and short stories such as the adaptation of the planet of the apes movies into paperback format. I have met him and found him to be rude and arrogant to anyone who 1) also wants to be a writer 2) has anything good to say about Stephen King

(PS to Mr Gerrold: Stephen King is a DAMN good writer, instead of being so jealous of his literary genius realize that Mr. King worked his #$@#%$5 off to become that way. Why dont YOU do some of that instead of selling us those cheap overstuffed ear muffs you call tribbles at conventions?")
David Gerrold wrote "The Trouble With Tribbles" and has never let the world forget it.

Garry's Mod

Garry's Mod or GMod is a modification for the Source game engine. It is a nonlinear physics and role playing video game that allows the player to manipulate objects and experiment with physics.

Garry's Mod was created in 2004 by Garry Newman's Team of Developers. It started out as a mod that allowed users to rope things to go together, and it made the pistol shoot out manhacks and other things to build. Since then, the game has gone through various versions, adding more and more features until it became the game based mod it is today. After the tenth version of Garry's Mod, the mod was no longer referred by its number and just called Garry's Mod.

Garry's Mod allows players to manipulate props from any Source engine game installed on their computer (or ones created by the community) using the Physics Gun, or Physgun, a blue version of Half-Life 2's Gravity Gun (the same model as the Super Gravity Gun at the end of Half Life 2 as well as some parts of Half-Life 2: Episode One) that allows objects to be picked up from any distance, adjusted in mid-air and frozen in place. A second, multi-purpose gun called the Tool Gun can perform many tasks such as weld objects together or rope them together with ropes or controllable winches, plus hanging lights and lamps, doors and buttons, or whatever the community is able to code it to perform.
Person1: "Hey Person2, what are you playing?"
Person2: "Garry's Mod, the best physics game ever!"
Person1: "Wow! I love you!"
