Cultural Appropriation

When non oppressed groups of people (primarily white folk) adopt key cultural “taboo” trademarks from POC and intentionally/unintentionally make them hip, trendy, and acceptable.
So when Taylor (who is black) put her hair in cornrows she was ghetto but now that Tina’s (who is white) hair is in cornrows, cornrows are now trendy?

Yes.

Cultural Appropriation

When individuals chose to utilize an aspect of another group's culture for fashion or financial gain. These individuals as outsiders, often lack knowledge about the significance of practice they imitating within the given culture. Typically individuals who practice cultural appropriation feel extremely entitled, and lack a sense of awareness or respect for the people who actually practice the cultural traditions.
White people dressing like native americans, asians, black people, and other cultural groups for halloween. White people practicing yoga purely as a form of exercise without understanding the historical roots. White people who listen to rap music, but have no black friends. These are all examples of cultural appropriation, because people who have and practice these cultures do not approve of these acts.

Vocal Appropriation

When you are a bad singer and try to cover Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You" and so you get awfully out of pitch and then someone tries to sing it too and also get out of pitch and so they are appropriating your culture of getting out of pitch.
John: *singing I Will Always Love You out of pitch*
Mary: *also singing I Will Always Love You out of pitch*
John: Hey, I got out of pitch first. Stop appropriating my vocal capacities, that's vocal appropriation!

Sub-cultural appropriation

The adaptation of a sub-culture by non fans/fashionistas.
Example of sub-cultural appropriation:

"Omg Becky, where did you get that trasher shirt I LOVE it."

"I got it at target! It was in the sub-cultural appropriation aisle, next to The Grateful Dead, Nirvana, and Harley Davidson March!"

Cultural Appropriation

Ugly Caucasians with no culture of their own attempting to recreate other cultur, despite not even knowing what race or culture they are attempting to be.
Cultural Appropriation is ugly Indians, complete with spears and hokey fake tattoos, pretending to be Native Americans despite not knowing anything about the race or culture they are attempting to depict.
