Also used as a fail safe so not to accidentally call a woman by the wrong name. Men have long used the term because many lack respect towards their fellow females. This is not exclusive to just baby......sweetheart, honey, beautiful, gorgeous, babygirl.......etc are synonyms. Real women do not appreciate the disrespect of being called anything else other than our name.
